Bio

Welcome to my classroom website!  My name is Barbara King and I am your child's First Grade teacher.  This is my 19th year as an educator.  During my teaching career, I have taught Kindergarten, first grade, fourth grade, and undergraduate students.  I currently teach Educational Psychology at the University of the South in addition to teaching first grade.  In my first year of teaching, I taught 4th grade at East Lincoln Elementary in Tullahoma, TN.  In my second year of teaching, I taught Kindergarten at North Elementary located in Altamont, TN.

I am currently in my 17th year as a teacher at Sewanee Elementary School. I am very proud to be a teacher at SES!  It is truly the best school ever!  I say this, not only because I work there, but also because my own children attend as well!  I believe that Sewanee Elementary provides a "top-notch" education that prepares students to become life-long lovers of learning!  I love the "community" atmosphere of our school.  The teachers and students make it a great place to be!

I attended David Lipscomb University during my undergraduate coursework and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education degree in 2002. In 2006, I went back to school and earned my Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Middle Tennessee State University. I also have an Educational Specialist degree from Lincoln Memorial University (2016).  I completed my doctoral degree from Lipscomb University in Learning Organizations and Strategic Change (2019).

I currently live in Sewanee, TN with my husband, Isaac, and my two children, Nathan (age 17) and Madison (age 15). Isaac is the owner of Kings Tree Service and works as an arborist for the company. We have been married for 18 wonderful years. Our family stays busy with after school activities such as golf, volleyball, basketball, and tennis! We are a very busy family!

My hobbies include attending my children's games/performances, watching movies, shopping, and traveling with my family! We are "on-the-go" constantly...never a dull moment! I am so thankful to have such a wonderful family and a rewarding job that I love so much!
