Support the Sewanee Community Chest!
The  Sewanee Parent Organization has requested $25,000 from the Sewanee Community Chest to support our school.
Since 1908, the goal of the Sewanee Community Chest has been to help citizens by funding the community. Through Community Chest donations, local organizations provide for basic needs in the community such as books, food, recreational spaces, elder care, children’s educational needs and more. The Sewanee Community Chest is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and donations are tax-deductible. Send your donation to Sewanee Community Chest, P.O. Box 99, Sewanee, TN 37375. For more information, or to make a donation through PayPal, contact <sewaneecommunitychest@gmail.com> or go to <www.sewaneecivic.wordpress.com>.
The Sewanee Parent Organization is a nonprofit group comprised of parent and community volunteers whose mission is to develop closer connections between school and home by encouraging parent and community involvement; to enhance the educational experience by supporting academic and enrichment activities; and to improve the environment at our school by providing volunteer and financial support.
The Sewanee Parent Organization works closely with both parents and the staff at Sewanee Elementary School to find ways to improve the lives of students at the school. It is the Sewanee Parent Organization’s goal to enrich educational opportunities provided by the Franklin County School system while also providing educational opportunities not funded by the local school system. With Community Chest funds, teachers have more resources available to reach the educational goals they set for their students, the SPO can support the staff, and, by providing more enrichment opportunities, we enable students to engage further with their families, the SES staff, their school, and the broader community.
Over the years, many of our basic needs remain the same: we support teachers by giving them money to spend on classroom needs, we support annual events like the Reverse Parade and Friday School, and we support the library and basic systems at the school. This year, we are looking to add categories and programs. We will begin an after-school activity program on Wednesdays (to build on the success of and interest in Friday School), give more funds to our underfunded library, support technology requests to benefit classrooms and struggling readers, and support science education as well as learned rooted in our community.
