SES 5th graders will be presenting a skit "The Dream of Highlander" at SES on Thursday, February 9th at 6:00 p.m.  The skit will be in the cafeteria at SES.  Students will also be performing a portion of their skit, as well as singing with the SAS choir and the American Spiritual Ensemble at 11:00 a.m.in the university's Guerry Hall.  SES was asked to be a part of this special event with the American Spiritual Ensemble, beginning with singing a couple songs with the ensemble.  Next, there was an idea of having a skit about Highlander Folk School to tie in with the concert.  The fifth graders, along with Katie Felts and Lauran Godfrey (5th grade teachers), Cynthia Gray (music teacher), and Kim Tucker (principal) visited Highlander Folk School in Monteagle.   After touring the school and gathering more information, Cynthia Gray wrote the skit and added some music.  Highlander Folk School was a place that allowed people to come together with their thoughts and ideas of creating a better world.  They worked together, planned, and brought about the forming of unions and were a big part of the Civil Rights Movement.
